About Us

Welcome to our Practice.

Chaddesden and Spondon are long-established villages to the east of Derby. Both are mentioned in the Domesday Book as being a mix of meadow, woodland pasture and farming land. Even in the mid-1990s many of our patients could remember Chaddesden and Spondon as villages outside the limits of the town of Derby. Our Practice is similarly long-established with origins dating to before the founding of the National Health Service in 1948. Today we serve, in the main, the people of Chaddesden and Spondon but take in also patients from the Little Chester, Breadsall, Oakwood, Borrowash and Ockbrook areas. The Practice serves approximately 11,000 patients.

Traditionally there were four Partners in the practice. Dr Philip Dodgson joined the Practice in 1980. The practice list size grew during the 1980s leading to the addition of a fifth Partner, Dr Peter Wrigglesworth in 1987. Following the retirements of Drs Dodsley and Lowe in 1992, Dr Peter Lavelle and Dr Janet Lindsay joined as Partners. Dr Lavelle left in 1996 being replaced by Dr John Frain. In 1999, Dr John Collings retired and Dr Anna Frain joined the Practice. Shortly after the opening of a new surgery building in 2001, Dr Janet Lindsay left to join another local practice. Dr Andrew Ratcliffe was a Partner between 2002 and 2012. In February 2004 Dr Wrigglesworth left to join a Practice in Suffolk. In 2005 Dr E Mandishona joined the Practice. In March 2011, Dr Dodgson retired and was replaced by Dr Rao. Dr Yollanda Chikari joined us in May 2012. The Partnership was enlarged by Dr Mohammed and Dr Zilinskas in 2013 while Drs Shahzad & Dr Khan joined as replacement Partners in April 2014 & July 2015 respectively. In July 2016, the Partnership was joined by Dr Lukas.

Formerly, our main surgery was on Nottingham Road, Chaddesden. Now we have purpose-built premises on St Mark’s Road, Derby. Together with our Spondon branch, refurbished in 1996, the Practice is well equipped to meet the challenges facing Primary Care in the 21st century National Health Service. There is car parking available at both sites with disabled access and both surgeries are close to bus routes.
